I explore space, movement and surface by layering materials in intricate patterns. Radiant colors and shapes found in the natural world can be so brilliant that they appear artificial, and man's attempt to imitate these and their connections is intriguing. Using traditional techniques in unexpected ways, I create pieces that are a marriage of image and object. I carve and drill through the painted wood surfaces, stitch with thread and beads, apply gold leaf and fabricated metallic objects, and inlay magnets so that parts can be removed from the work and worn as jewelry. I am driven by the playfulness and purpose of this type of hands on, direct viewer interaction. My work reveals an infatuation with the minutia of visual life, objects and nature, and the desire to continue the process of discovery.
